FAQ

Does Earthquake hit your ally in double battles?

Yes. Earthquake hits every adjacent Pokémon, your partner included, at 0.75× damage because it is a spread move. Pair it with a Flying type, a Levitate user, an Air Balloon holder or a Pokémon using Protect, or use a Pokémon with Telepathy.

Does Sludge Wave hit allies?

Yes. Sludge Wave hits all adjacent Pokémon including your ally, and can poison it (10%). A Steel-type partner is immune and a Poison type resists and can't be poisoned.

Does Surf hit your partner?

Yes, since Generation 4 Surf hits all adjacent Pokémon, allies included. In Generation 3 it only hit the two foes. Water Absorb, Storm Drain or Dry Skin on your partner turns it into a heal or a boost.

Does Self-Destruct or Explosion hit allies?

Yes. Both hit every adjacent Pokémon, including your partner, and the user faints. They have normal priority (0).

Which spread moves don't hit allies?

Moves that target "all adjacent foes" only hit the opponents: Rock Slide, Heat Wave, Dazzling Gleam, Hyper Voice, Blizzard, Icy Wind, Snarl, Electroweb, Make It Rain, Muddy Water, Glacial Lance, Astral Barrage and 36 more listed below.

How much damage do spread moves do?

A move that hits more than one target does 0.75× damage to each (0.5× in Generation 3). If only one target is left on the field it does full damage.
