How to check IVs in three steps

  1. Pick the Pokémon, the game and its nature (the boosted stat is green, the lowered one red).
  2. Type its level and the six stats from the summary screen. Leave a stat empty if you don't want to check it.
  3. Read the IV ranges. If a stat still shows a range, level up once, press Add a reading at another level and enter the new stats — or add the Judge's rating and the characteristic.

When you know the IVs, open the Pokémon in the team builder or see its finished stats in the stat calculator. For EVs use the EV calculator.

FAQ

What are IVs in Pokémon?

Individual Values are hidden numbers from 0 to 31, one per stat, fixed when you catch or hatch a Pokémon. At level 100 each IV point adds one stat point; at level 50 every 2 IVs add one point. They are why two Pokémon of the same species and level can have different stats.

How does the IV calculator work?

It runs the stat formula for all 32 possible IVs of each stat and keeps the ones that give exactly the stat you entered, using the base stats, level, nature and EVs. Each extra reading at another level, the Judge's rating or the characteristic removes IVs that no longer fit.

Why do I get a range instead of one number?

At low levels several IVs round to the same stat. A level 5 Pokémon can match 8 or more IVs; at level 50 usually 2; at level 100 only one. Level it up and add the new stats as another reading — the result card tells you which level separates the remaining options.

Do I need to enter EVs?

Only if the Pokémon has battled or eaten vitamins. A freshly caught or hatched Pokémon has 0 EVs. If it has EVs and you don't know them, reset them with Reset Bag berries or Fresh-Start Mochi first, or use a Pokémon straight from the wild.

What does the Judge rating mean?

The in-game Judge (Sun / Moon onward, the Check Stats screen in Scarlet and Violet) rates each IV: Best = 31, Fantastic = 30, Very good = 26–29, Pretty good = 16–25, Decent = 1–15, No good = 0. Choose the rating for any stat and the calculator keeps only those IVs.

How do characteristics help?

The characteristic on the summary page (Gen 4 onward) names the stat with the highest IV and that IV's remainder when divided by 5. "Likes to run", for example, means Speed is the highest IV and is 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30. The calculator applies both rules.

Can I change IVs?

Hyper Training with Bottle Caps (Gen 7 onward, at level 50 or 100 in Scarlet and Violet) makes a stat act as if its IV were 31. Mints change the nature's stat effect but not IVs.
