Daily Red calculator: today's team vs Red

Pick the version you play, add the six Pokémon Daily Red gave you today and, if you can, their moves. In short

  • Red's team (always): Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise — level 100, Pikachu leads.
  • Your team: six random Gen 1–3 Pokémon, the same for everyone today, new at your local midnight.
  • Best lead: a Ground type — Pikachu's Electric moves can't touch it and Earthquake usually OHKOs.
  • Biggest threats: Light Ball Pikachu's special hits and Espeon's speed; Snorlax is the wall.
  • Gen 3 rule to remember: the move's type decides physical or special (all Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Dragon, Dark moves are special).
  • Unofficial: Daily Red is a fan game; play it at daily-red.com or the original on GitHub.

Red's team in Daily Red

Same six Pokémon in both versions, but different moves and items. HP and Speed are Red's real level-100 stats — anything on your team faster than his Speed moves first.

How to beat Red in Daily Red, Pokémon by Pokémon

Pikachu1. Pikachu

Red always leads with it. Light Ball doubles its Special Attack, so Thunderbolt and Volt Tackle (special in Gen 3, because Electric is a special type) hit like a legendary's. Iron Tail is its only answer to Ground types, and Static can paralyze anything that makes contact.

Beat it with: Any Ground type (Rhydon, Golem, Swampert, Marowak, Steelix, Donphan) is immune to its Electric moves and usually OHKOs it with Earthquake. No Ground type? A bulky special wall or anything faster with a strong hit.

Espeon2. Espeon

Very fast, with a strong Psychic. In the original it can Calm Mind and heal with Morning Sun, so don't give it free turns; on daily-red.com it carries Bite and Quick Attack instead.

Beat it with: Dark types are immune to Psychic and hit it super-effectively: Tyranitar, Umbreon, Houndoom, Absol, Sharpedo. Steel types (Metagross, Skarmory, Steelix) resist Psychic; Ghost and Bug attacks hit it super-effectively.

Snorlax3. Snorlax

Huge HP and Special Defense, Leftovers, and Immunity so you can't poison it. Body Slam paralyzes, Earthquake and Shadow Ball give coverage, and in the original it can Rest.

Beat it with: Strong physical Fighting moves (Machamp, Heracross, Hariyama, Breloom, Blaziken) — Snorlax's Defense is its weak side. Ghost types are immune to Body Slam; Rock and Steel types resist it.

Venusaur4. Venusaur

Bulky Grass/Poison with Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb. In the original it has Sleep Powder and Leech Seed, so hit hard first; Grass types are not immune to powders in Gen 3.

Beat it with: Fire, Ice, Flying and Psychic attacks are all super-effective. Fast Psychic types (Alakazam, Starmie, Espeon) and Fire types (Arcanine, Charizard, Ninetales) handle it best.

Charizard5. Charizard

Fast special attacker with Flamethrower, Dragon Claw and Aerial Ace, plus Earthquake. Being Flying, it's immune to Ground moves.

Beat it with: Rock moves do four times damage — any Rock Slide user wins. Water and Electric attacks are super-effective; bulky Water types (Lapras, Vaporeon, Suicune, Milotic) shrug off its Flamethrower.

Blastoise6. Blastoise

Bulky Water type with Surf, Ice Beam for Grass and Dragon types, and Earthquake for Electric types. In the original it also has the two-turn Hydro Cannon.

Beat it with: Electric types that don't fear Earthquake (Zapdos, Lanturn) and Grass types that resist Ice Beam's punch (Ludicolo is neutral to Ice and resists Water). Big special attackers like Alakazam and Gengar also out-damage it.

How the Daily Red game works

Daily Red is a once-a-day Pokémon battle in the browser. You get six random level-100 Pokémon — everyone gets the same six that day — and climb Mt. Silver to fight Red. You get one counted battle per day; wins, losses and streaks are kept in your browser. A new team unlocks at midnight in your own time zone, like Wordle.

How today's team is generated (original version)

  • Species: six different Pokémon from all 386 of Generations 1–3, whose base stat totals add up to at least 2,700.
  • Legendaries: one team in eight gets exactly one legendary or mythical Pokémon.
  • Moves: random picks from what the Pokémon learns by level-up and TM/HM — so check your moves before the fight, and enter them in the calculator.
  • Stats: level 100, IVs 25–31, EVs in the Pokémon's two best stats, and a random useful held item.

daily-red.com, a separate remake on a Gen 3 battle simulator, draws today's team from its own pool and gives Red different sets — pick the matching version in the calculator.

Daily Red tips that win more battles

  • Don't switch for free. In Gen 3 a switch gives Red a free hit. Bring in your answer after a faint, or into a resisted attack.
  • Speed decides close fights. If both sides 2HKO, the faster one wins — the calculator marks who moves first in every cell.
  • Save your Ground type for Pikachu and your Rock Slide user for Charizard; they are the cleanest answers on Red's team.
  • Hit Venusaur and Espeon fast. Sleep Powder and Calm Mind (original version) get worse every turn you wait.
  • Use practice runs. Try the calculator's plan in practice first, then play your counted battle.

Where to play Daily Red

DexTeam does not host the game. Play it at daily-red.com, or see the original FireRed-engine version and its source on GitHub (amoi-builds/dailyred). For deeper prep, build the same team in the Gen 3 team builder, check your team's attacking types with the type coverage calculator, or look up matchups on the type chart.

FAQ

What is Daily Red?

Daily Red is a free fan-made Pokémon game that works like Wordle: once a day everyone gets the same six random level-100 Pokémon from Generations 1–3 and has one battle against Red, the champion from the top of Mt. Silver. It is unofficial — not made by Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company — and DexTeam is not affiliated with it.

What is Red's team in Daily Red?

Red always has the same six: Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, all at level 100. The original version gives them the sets from FireRed's post-game (Pikachu with Light Ball and Volt Tackle, Espeon with Calm Mind, Snorlax with Rest, Venusaur with Sleep Powder). daily-red.com uses its own sets — the tables on this page show both.

How do you beat Red in Daily Red?

Plan one answer for each of Red's six before you start. Lead with something that beats Pikachu (a Ground type is ideal), then switch only when a Pokémon faints or when the incoming hit is weak — in Gen 3 every switch gives Red a free attack. The calculator above works out the lead and the answer to each of Red's Pokémon for today's team.

What is today's Daily Red team?

Each day's six are picked at random for everyone; the day changes at midnight in your own time zone. Enter today's six in the calculator above — it takes a few seconds — and you get the best lead, a switch order and every matchup. The link updates as you type, so you can share today's plan.

How are Daily Red teams generated?

In the original game the six species come from all 386 Pokémon of Generations 1–3, and their base stat totals have to add up to at least 2,700. One team in eight gets exactly one legendary or mythical Pokémon. Moves are random picks from what the Pokémon can learn by level-up and TM/HM, IVs are 25–31, EVs go into each Pokémon's two best stats, and each one holds a random useful item.

Can I play Daily Red more than once a day?

Your daily battle counts once. Both versions let you practice after that without touching your streak, so you can use practice runs to test the plan from the calculator.

Which generation's rules does Daily Red use?

Generation 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen). Whether an attack is physical or special depends on its type: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Dragon and Dark are special; the rest are physical. There are no Fairy types, no Gen 4+ moves and no powder immunity for Grass types.

Where can I play Daily Red?

The original Daily Red by amoi-builds runs the real FireRed engine in the browser (its source is on GitHub). daily-red.com is a separate remake built on a Gen 3 battle simulator. Both are free fan games; DexTeam only provides this planner and guide.

Daily Red is an unofficial fan game by its own developers; DexTeam is not affiliated with it. Pokémon and sprites are © Nintendo, Creatures and GAME FREAK. DexTeam is an unofficial fan site.
