Pick two Pokémon (or hit Random fusion). The second Pokémon's sprite gives the body shape and the first one's colour palette is mapped onto it, darkest to lightest, so outlines and highlights stay in place. You always see both fusions: A + B and B + A.
Following the popular Infinite Fusion convention: HP, Sp. Atk and Sp. Def come two-thirds from the first Pokémon and one-third from the second; Attack, Defense and Speed the other way round. The fusion takes the first Pokémon's primary type and the second Pokémon's secondary type (or its primary type if it only has one).
