Team tips
- Grassy Terrain is the classic counter to Earthquake spam: grounded allies take half damage from your own spread Earthquake.
- Rillaboom (Grassy Surge) with Grassy Glide is the best-known user — the priority only works while the user is grounded.
- The healing helps both sides, so it favors bulky teams that can outlast the opponent.

Grassy Terrain FAQ
What does Grassy Terrain do?
Grassy Terrain heals grounded Pokémon every turn, powers up Grass-type attacks and weakens Earthquake for five turns. Grass-type moves used by a grounded Pokémon deal 1.3× damage (1.5× in Generation 6–7). Every grounded Pokémon restores 1/16 of its maximum HP at the end of each turn. How long does Grassy Terrain last?
Grassy Terrain lasts 5 turns, or 8 turns if the Pokémon that set it holds a Terrain Extender. Setting a different terrain replaces it, and Steel Roller or Ice Spinner can end it early.
How do you set Grassy Terrain?
With the move Grassy Terrain or the ability Grassy Surge and Seed Sower. Pokémon with Grassy Surge and Seed Sower include Tapu Bulu, Grookey, Thwackey, Rillaboom and Arboliva.
Does Grassy Terrain affect Flying-type Pokémon?
No. Terrain only affects grounded Pokémon, so Flying types, Pokémon with Levitate and Pokémon holding an Air Balloon (or under Magnet Rise) ignore Grassy Terrain — they get neither its boost nor its protection.
