Champions rules & mechanics that change team building

Pokémon Champions is built for competitive play — VGC 2026 uses it — and several of its rules differ from the main series.

  • Stat Points replace EVs and IVs: up to 32 points in one stat and 66 in total, and each point adds exactly 1 to that stat. Natures still give +10% / −10%.
  • Every Pokémon battles at level 50, so speed tiers are much closer together than at level 100.
  • Mega Evolution is the battle mechanic — one Mega per team — and there is no Terastallization, Dynamax or Z-Moves.
  • Only the Regulation M-C roster is legal, and some moves have Champions-specific power, accuracy or PP (each move page lists them).
  • VGC is doubles, bring six and pick four after Team Preview: spread moves, Fake Out, Protect, redirection and Tailwind or Trick Room matter more than in singles.
  • Item Clause: no two Pokémon on a team can hold the same item.

Use the Doubles checklist in the Roles tab and the speed tiers page to finish a team.

3 example teams for Champions

Each team starts from a strong non-legendary that is among the most used in this format and is completed by DexTeam's own Smart picks, which add the Pokémon from Pokémon Champions that best cover the team's shared weaknesses. They are starting points, not finished sets — open one in the builder to add moves and items.

What to look for in a Pokémon Champions team builder — and how this one does it

  • Legal Champions roster only. The picker is limited to the 345 Pokémon and Mega Evolutions available in Pokémon Champions; imported Pokémon outside the roster are marked "Not in Champions". Move lists follow Champions movepools.
  • Usage stats with a stated source. Usage rank, meta threats and popular sets come from public Pokémon Showdown usage statistics for Champions VGC 2026 Regulation M-C (1630+ rating, September 2026), refreshed monthly — not live.
  • Team weaknesses for doubles. Shared weaknesses with abilities applied, move-based coverage, and a Doubles checklist for Fake Out, Protect, redirection and speed control.
  • Stat Points and level 50 speed tiers. Stats use the Champions Stat Point system (32 per stat, 66 total, +1 stat per point) at level 50, so speed tiers match the game.
  • Tells you which Pokémon to add. Smart picks rank legal Pokémon by how much they fix your weaknesses, weighted by Reg M-C usage.
  • Free, no sign-up, Showdown export. Runs in your browser; share by link or export to Showdown and test it in the Champions format. Pair it with the Champions damage calculator for exact rolls.

How to build a balanced team in 60 seconds

  1. Pick your game above so only legal Pokémon, moves and the right type chart are used.
  2. Add your must-have Pokémon. Tap a slot, type a few letters (English, 中文, 日本語, Français, Deutsch, Español or 한국어 all work) and press Enter.
  3. Read the red rows in the Weaknesses tab — a type is a problem when three or more Pokémon are weak to it and nothing resists it.
  4. Use Smart picks. The suggestions under your team are ranked by how much they reduce shared weaknesses and fill coverage gaps, weighted by how often they are used in real battles.
  5. Check Coverage and Threats, add moves (or one-click Popular sets), then Share the link or export to Showdown.

DexTeam vs Pokémon Showdown, Pikalytics and Marriland

These tools are complementary rather than rivals — many players use two of them. For Champions, a common flow is: plan the team and fix its weaknesses here, check usage trends on Pikalytics, then export to Showdown and test it in the Champions VGC format.

FAQ

Is there a Pokémon Champions team builder with usage stats?

Yes — this one. The top Champions Pokémon, their usage share, the meta threats your team struggles with and one-click popular sets all come from public Pokémon Showdown usage statistics for Champions VGC 2026 Regulation M-C (1630+ rating, September 2026). They are refreshed monthly, not live.

Can I check my Pokémon Champions team's weaknesses before a VGC battle?

Yes. Add your six Pokémon (or paste your Showdown team) and the Weaknesses tab shows shared weaknesses with abilities applied, Coverage shows what your moves hit, Threats lists common Reg M-C Pokémon that beat you, and the Doubles checklist confirms Fake Out, Protect, redirection and speed control.

Which Pokémon are available in Pokémon Champions?

The builder uses the current Champions roster — 345 Pokémon and Mega Evolutions are legal. Pokémon that are not in Champions are hidden from the picker; if you import one, it is marked "Not in Champions".

How do Stat Points work in Pokémon Champions?

Champions replaces EVs and IVs with Stat Points. Every Pokémon is level 50, you can put up to 32 points in one stat and 66 in total, and each point raises that stat by exactly 1. Natures still give +10% / −10%. The builder calculates final stats with this formula.

Is there Terastallization in Pokémon Champions?

No — Champions uses Mega Evolution instead of Tera, so the builder hides Tera Types and lets you add one Mega per team. Mega Stones are offered as items for the matching Pokémon.

Where do the meta threats and popular sets come from?

From public Pokémon Showdown usage statistics for Champions VGC 2026 Regulation M-C (1630+ rating, September 2026). They are refreshed each month.

Can I import and export Pokémon Showdown teams?

Yes. Paste any Showdown or PokéPaste text into Import and the builder keeps nicknames, items, abilities, Tera Types, EVs, IVs, natures, levels and moves. Export gives you text you can paste straight back into Showdown's Teambuilder.

How do I share my team?

Press Share to copy a link — the whole team is encoded in the URL, so anyone who opens it sees the same six Pokémon, sets and analysis. Image creates a 1200×675 team card that is ready for Reddit, Discord or X.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is completely free and has no sign-up. Teams are saved in your browser for each game and in the share link; nothing is uploaded.
